I entered the fire service in 1992, as the first black firefighter to be hired by Warner Bros Studios FD. With a desire to become a Municipal firefighter, I was hired with the City of Chula Vista, again as the first black firefighter with that agency. It didn’t stop there, as I became home sick and returned closer to home and roots and was hired with Arcadia FD, where I spent the lion share of my career. 2002 would mark ten years in the rank of Firefighter. In 2006 I became the departments first black Engineer and ultimately the first black Captain (2008), where I spent eight years in that rank. It was in 2017 where I took a big leap of faith and tested with the City of Montebello as a Battalion Chief, ultimately finishing my career with the City of Vista as their first black Battalion Chief. Along the way, I initially joined the IABPFF in 1995. Experiencing the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute was another great experience I will never forget. To all of the Brothers and Sisters that I have met along the way, I am forever grateful for every hello, handshake, and hug exchanged. The lessons I learned from each of you will forever live in my mental tool box of resources.
