Freddie Brooks joined the City of Chattanooga Fire department in July 1987 as firefighter. His community involvement allowed him to become widely known by various neighborhood association , social, and youth groups. His efforts lead to more communities becoming aware of fire and life safety campaigns being implemented by The Brother’s United and the fire department. Before he started his 28 year career his love for the community came as a child being raised and educated in the inner-city of Chattanooga, raised in the housing project and educated at Howard High School from elementary until graduating in 1978.
While networking with the IABPFF, a couple of friends perked his interest to furthering his education. Freddie enrolled at his local community college after that and received a Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science Technology in Emergency Service Supervision & Administration from Chattanooga State Community College and went on to complete his Bachelor’s degree from The University of Memphis in Fire Administration & Fire Prevention Technology. A thirst for education continued with his graduation from the Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute at Dillard University, in 2000 and where he remains on staff till this day. Freddie has always valued education and networking with his fellow firefighters from around the country, entering the National Fire Academy he obtains more knowledge in fire prevention and public education which lead him to becoming listed as a contract instructor at (NFA). Freddie has other professional achievements consist of holding a wide variety of fire operations and public education certifications and trainings.
